I think you did great, I'm actually glad that you won the league because you've done a lot, not just for the squad community, but for the game as a whole. But, leagues have been largely decided on team work, skill, leadership, desire, tactics etc. These days it pretty much boils down to activity. That's why I hope this will be the last league, unless the top players who sign up to these leagues start showing to their matches.
Every GM preselects their picks, you don't get everyone that you would like. Taught historically doesn't show to play off games, yet he showed for you this year. These are things that can't be preplanned because even you were unsure whether taught was going to show.
Perhaps I'm being an idealist but I would want the top line from each team to come together in an almighty battle and find out who is the best. In the end, the problem comes down the vets not caring anymore, but still signing up to the leagues.
we were in my eyes favorites from the beginning and active or non-active, best team won.
This is pure delusion, I'm afraid, but I'm happy for you nonetheless.
Oh if you want to go down this road, then fine by me. I was confident that taught would show for me, because if there is anything that i am good at, than it is motivation. You can ask any player in any of my squads, i keep this game and the league interesting for players, so they have motivation in showing up. And thats what out of all the new leaders that have popped up after the old generation retired, only eel has.
Only players who didnt show as much as i wanted were blood line, who unfortunately just got unplayable lag in the middle of league, which was not predicted and cyp, who had to move in the middle of league and lost internet access. You keep saying its a gamble if vets show up or not. Well i beg to differ. It sure is with really inactive players like the trauma+ crew for example, but with semi-active vets, THEY WILL always show for good leaders.
It takes a lot of interest and actually interaction with your players, making them feel valuable and also bringing best out of them, its not just saying next game at 3 and then being ignorant for rest of week.
For entire length of this league i was online more or less every day, i hosted pracs during weeks, we had squadfreqs in baseduel and in pub. It takes alot of effort, its not just "luck".
Its pretty funny how throughout the league i got constant requests from various players in different squads including yours who wanted me to trade for them, i always get that. You may disagree with this, but you lack sort of charisma, which a true leader needs to keep squad motivated. This is especially vital when it comes to motivating older players.
Not gonna mention names, but i will give a true quote from your squadmember: "this is the most boring squad i have ever been in".
In that way i am pretty sure Monty is similar to me, i have played under him in squads and he is a fun leader, he connects with players and he motivates them. You just gather a roster, make lineup and play and piss off whoever disagrees with you.
